The Smalley Foundation partners with energy companies and other stakeholders to create safety-awareness programs for residents living, working and playing near pipeline and oil-and-gas drilling operations.

Oil & Gas and Pipeline Operators

We work with oil & gas and pipeline operators who are required by the Department of Transportation’s RP1162 to improve public awareness of pipeline operations and safety issues through enhanced communications with:

• The public, including residents, businesses, schools, hospitals, prisons and other places where people gather near oil & gas and pipeline facilities.
• State and local emergency response and planning officials (e.g., State and County emergency management agencies [EMAs]) and local emergency planning committees (LEPCs) and first responder organizations.
• Local public officials and governing councils of affected municipalities and school districts.
